Another praises for Garuda Indonesia Airways

Jakarta – Garuda Indonesia airline was awarded the World’s Best Cabin Crew 2014. The award was given by Skytrax in the biggest airline exhibition in the world, Fanborough International Airshow, England yesterday.

The award made this State-owned Enterprise airline defeating several top airlines such as Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong and Singapore Airline. Both airlines were nominated for the same category.

Garuda Indonesia was crowned by Skytrax as the 7th best airline in the world. The position was up by two ratings from 2013 that was on the 9th position.

“This is the biggest honor for us and Indonesia. I would like to say thank you to our loyal customers,” Director of Garuda Indonesia Emirsyah Satar said in England yesterday.

Skytrax is an independent survey organization in England that performs airline and airport ranking-based on consumers’ survey and direct observation. The survey is based on 18.85 million airline passengers in the world. Passengers from 160 countries took part in choosing the best airline out of 245 existing airlines in the world, starting from periods of August 2013 until May 2014.

China’s Airlines will increase their aircraft from Boeing for about $4,6bn

“Boeing is delighted with Shandong Airlines’ strong interest in the efficient 737 airplane and we continue to work with them and the Chinese government to determine the best way to meet their requirement,” the plane maker said in a statement.

The order still needs to be approved by the Chinese government.


Media told that Shandong Airlines was placed order to buy 50 aircraft from Boeing. This news was confirmed by Boeing, except they’re not told the number. The aircraft manufacturer will get extra money for about $4,6 billion worth £2,6 billion.

NJ MET Vice President Joseph Federico announced that the company’s annual holiday toy drive will benefit Oasis, a Haven for Women and Children, in Paterson, NJ.

Toys and games have been collected since Thanksgiving and will be delivered on Christmas Eve. Donations are still being accepted.

Since 2001, Wayne, NJ resident Joseph Federico has led this drive at NJ MET which has collected many toys for distribution throughout the New Jersey area. Last year’s recipients were St. Joseph’s Hospital. Paterson, NJ Pediatric Department and the Union Beach, NJ “Hurricane Sandy” Toy Drive.

“We look forward all year to doing this drive which makes the holidays a little brighter for many underprivileged and sick children,” said Joseph Federico from NJ MET’s headquarters in Clifton, NJ.

“We are encouraging colleagues, family members and friends to participate in this worthy cause by supporting our drive. Donations need not be expensive, there are plenty of low priced games and toys that are sure to bring smiles,” Federico said.

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) announces the successful completion of the second Dream Chaser® Space System (DCSS) Integrated Systems Safety Analysis Review, marking the company’s completion of NASA’s Commercial Crew Integrated Capability (CCiCap) initiative Milestone six. This critical safety review evaluated not only the Dream Chaser spacecraft, but also the launch vehicle, vehicle integration and the ground and mission systems, which comprise the entire DCSS.

Milestone six represents a major step forward in the maturation of the systems safety and reliability analysis, which is critical to achieving a safe and effective design of the DCSS. During the milestone review, SNC provided NASA with significant and detailed systems safety analysis products including hazard analysis and failure tolerance analysis of the entire DCSS.

“Our Dream Team, which includes our strategic industry partners, noted universities and NASA centers around the country, is making significant strides to prepare the Dream Chaser Space System for its first orbital flight,” said Mark N. Sirangelo, corporate vice president and head of SNC’s Space Systems. “The completion of this safety milestone is a vital program and developmental achievement that advances the program considerably. By successfully passing two critical cornerstone safety milestones in 2013, we have established a path for the Dream Chaser to safely transport U.S. astronauts to and from low-Earth orbit.”

Dream Chaser builds on NASA’s extensive human spaceflight heritage by adopting key lessons learned from programs such as Apollo, the space shuttle, the International Space Station, and Constellation, in the design and operations of the DCSS.

The first DCSS Integrated Systems Safety Analysis Review was held in early 2013, providing NASA its first look at the DCSS safety and reliability analysis products. Since that time, SNC has worked closely with NASA to find opportunities for improvement, and has made significant updates to the design of the vehicle aimed at improving safety and reliability.

“It is very exciting to see SNC incorporating NASA’s lessons learned throughout the past 50 years to ensure our astronauts are able to fly safely to and from low-Earth orbit,” said Kathy Lueders, acting manager of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. “SNC, like all of our partners, has found innovative ways to make spaceflight safer.”

CRP USA ( is pleased to announce the successful launch of Windform ( as part of the collaborative KySat-2 project, a 1U CubeSat, by students at the University of Kentucky and Morehead State University, in conjunction with Kentucky Space acting as the mission manager and coordinator.

On Tuesday, November 19, 2013 the collaborative team of students from the University of Kentucky and Moorehead State University along with Kentucky Space, launched the KySat-2 into orbit as part of the NASA ElaNa IV mission out of Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia. Thirty-five (35) minutes after deployment from the launch vehicle, KySat-2 began beaconing its telemetry data and was almost immediately heard by amateur radio operators. Since then, the KySat-2 team began performing system checks for each of the various subsystems that make up the satellite. According to the KySat-2 team, all systems have been performing nominally.

“There were several 3d printed components on the KySat-2 made by CRP USA from CRP Technology’s proprietary material Windform XT 2.0,” explains Twyman Clements, KySat-2 Project Manager, Kentucky Space. “One of the subsystems, is the camera systems that acts as an attitude determination system called Stellar Gyro. The 3d printed parts, were produced using the additive manufacturing technology Selective Laser Sintering and Windform XT 2.0 material. The additive manufactured process 3d printed the mounting hardware for the camera system, extensions for the separation switches, clips for holding the antennas in their stowed position, and the mounting bracket for the on board batteries. The process and the material were critical to achieve the right components for KySat-2.”

KySat-2’s main mission is to be an educational tool and demonstration for the students working on the satellite. KySat-2 was designed, built, and tested entirely by students and engineers, with most of the subsystems designed in-house.

Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing and Materials for Space Applications

CRP USA together with CRP Technology ( produced five Windform XT 2.0 parts that are incorporated into the deployable solar panels on the KySat-2; camera annulus, lens cover, deployable extensions, antenna clips, and battery holders. One of the highest levels of Windform materials, Windform XT 2.0 is a high performance material filled with carbon fiber and offers maximum mechanical performance for 3D printed parts. The material combines maximum toughness and robustness, yet produces an extremely light, final part that doesn’t impact the overall production weight of the KySat-2 unit. Utilizing the additive manufactured technology, Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), and Windform XT 2.0 material final parts for small productions can easily replace parts that are usually produced with traditional technology, or are otherwise unmanufacturable. This makes Windform a material that can stretch the limits of SLS applications, even in space applications.

Project Update

KySat-2 was launched on board a Minotaur I rocket built by Orbital Sciences. Typically, operational lifetime for a CubeSat is around 1 year due to radiation exposure and damage to the batteries. The KySat-2 will remain operational as long as the team is able to make reliable contact to the satellite. Testing has already begun on the subsystems and the team is hopeful they will be able to take pictures and download them from the spacecraft in the next few weeks.
