ERASE Racism Receives Funding for Strategic Outreach Campaign for Fair Housing

ERASE Racism

(PRWEB) December 24, 2013

ERASE Racism has received a $ 20,000 grant from the Long Island Unitarian Universalist Fund to hire a Long Island Organizer (“Organizer”). The Organizer will assist in devising and implementing local campaigns to advance fair housing including: developing and executing an outreach strategy; developing new alliances to link grassroots groups with broader policy issues; and ensuring that people of color are being adequately served by organizations providing Hurricane Sandy relief services. The organizer will also strengthen relationships with other nonprofit organizations and coalitions that share ERASE Racism’s mission.

This grant will allow ERASE Racism to deepen its relationship with individuals who have signed on as Partners for Racial Equity. “We know that our Partners support the mission of expanding housing opportunities to those who have been systematically denied equal access to housing in communities of high opportunity. We also know that some Long Islanders believe that racially integrated housing and public schools are not something to be feared but to be embraced, says Elaine Gross, President of ERASE Racism. This new position will connect people who want to make a difference with concrete ways to lend a hand to local and regional projects. “Increasing racial equity will only become a reality if many people and organizations join together to bring about change”, Ms. Gross concluded.

About ERASE Racism: ERASE Racism is a regional organization that leads public policy advocacy campaigns and related programmatic initiatives to promote racial equity in areas such as housing, public school education and healthcare. It engages in a variety of research, education and consulting activities to identify and address institutional and structural racism, primarily on Long Island.
