At least one company, Tango, has fielded takeover advances, according to Eric Setton, Tango’s co-founder. Naver Corp.’s Line has received an offer from Softbank Corp. for a stake in the company, people with knowledge of the matter have said. Other messaging applications include Kik, KakaoTalk and SnapChat, the photo sharing tool whose parent rebuffed a $3 billion offer from Facebook last year. The social network, Facebook, announced after the close of the market on Wednesday that it has acquired mobile messaging service WhatsApp for about $19 billion.

As several commentators tweeted, reaching simultaneously for the low-hanging comedy fruit: “They should call it WTFapp.”

facebook-whatsappAlthough the price is $19 billion, separates $4 billion in cash, $12 billion in Facebook stock, and $3 billion in restricted shares, to pay out to WhatsApp employees over the next four years. For a five-year-old company with 50 employees, that translates into $380 million per person—and a heck of a haul for the startup’s venture investors, led by Sequoia Capital. Google get Slicklogin, a Sound Authentication Firm from Israel


Google has acquired SlickLogin – an Israeli start-up behind the technology that allows websites to verify a user’s identity by utilizing sound waves.

It works by playing a uniquely generated, almost noiseless sound through computer speakers, which is picked up by an app on the user’s smartphone.

The app analyses the sound and sends a signal back to confirm the identity.

The technology can be used either as a replacement for a password or as an extra security layer.

Social gaming firm Zynga has announced the purchase of UK game-maker NaturalMotion for $527m (£320m).

Oxford-based Naturalmotion has had a string of portable amusement hits, for example, CSR Racing and Clumsy Ninja. Its buy gives Zynga an entry into the lucrative mobile games market.

As news of the deal emerged, Zynga likewise reported a loss of $25m for the final quarter.

.WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. officials are likely to allow China’s Lenovo Group to buy IBM’s low-end server business and Google Inc’s Motorola Mobility handset business if it agrees to concessions aimed at protecting U.S. national security, experts said.

Computer maker Lenovo has advantages over other Chinese companies that should help it overcome the mutual suspicion between the United States and China over industrial spying and cybersecurity, such as its track record of successful U.S. acquisitions in the past.
